Player Highlight: Castle, Grand View University

Seth "Fatcat" Coggins 4/6/2025

I talked to Matthew “Castle” Castle, the jungler for Grand View University League of Legends about his CLoL career. “I started clol in 2022 and I had played in tier 3 prior but wanted to go to school for it. So I was just doing random tryouts/combines and after a flyquest combine, I got a tryout for Winthrop and Winthrop sent me over to Grandview.” For those who aren’t aware, Winthrop is a top five CLoL school every year, and Flyquest is an amazing pro team so Castle is no stranger to the top of the ladder. I asked him what he would recommend for someone new to the scene and he told me “Just don’t take league too seriously, it’s always good to improve and try to win, but school and your career should always come first.”

Rival to Watch

As for a rival? “I guess it’s more Ottawa than Purdue Northwest even though PNW is better. The PNW from last season and this season are entirely different rosters so it won’t really feel like revenge or anything if we manage to beat them. But Ottawa yaps the most and they were the rival when I got here so probably them.” Currently, Grandview and Ottawa are 1-1 on the season, so the next time they play is in the playoffs in a life or death situation.
